Morphine is an opioid receptor agonist, with a content of 4% -21% in opium, averaging around 10%. The IUPAC name is 7,8-Didehydro-4,5-epoxy-17-methyl morphian-3,6-diol. The molecular formula is C17H19NO3, and the molecular weight is 285.3.
In 1806, German chemist Zeertina first isolated it from opium and named it morphine after the Greek dream god Morpheus. Morphine hydrochloride, a derivative of it, is a commonly used anesthetic in clinical practice with extremely strong analgesic effects. Moreover, its analgesic effect has good selectivity and is often used for severe pain caused by trauma, surgery, burns, etc. It is also used for angina caused by myocardial infarction, and can also be used as an analgesic, cough suppressant, and antidiarrheal; The diacetate of morphine is also known as heroin. But its biggest drawback is its tendency to become addicted. This causes long-term smokers to develop a serious dependence on morphine, both physically and psychologically, leading to severe drug addiction and causing great harm to themselves and society.
