A psychoactive drug that has inhibitory, excitatory, analgesic, and hallucinogenic effects on the central nervous system. An acute syndrome that often leads to disorientation, agitation, and delirium. Formulations that can produce similar effects include dexamethasone and ketamine. When using PCP illegally, it is generally smoke inhalation (which can also be taken orally or intravenously). It starts to take effect within 5 minutes and reaches its peak in about 30 minutes. Feeling joyful, warm, tingling, floating, and isolated from the outside world. Visual and auditory hallucinations, as well as changes in body image, distortion of temporal and spatial perception, delusions, and cognitive impairments can also occur. The accompanying neurological and physiological symptoms are dose-dependent, including hypertension, nystagmus, ataxia, dysarthria, facial abnormalities, sweating, hyperreflexia, decreased pain response, muscle rigidity, high fever, auditory hypersensitivity, and seizures. The effect generally lasts for 4-6 hours, but residual effects may take several days or longer to disappear. In the early stages of its decline, there may be self harm or violent behavior. PCP delirium, PCP delusions, and PCP mood disorders have been observed.
