Hematuria, also known as rectal bleeding, is a phenomenon caused by multiple reasons, resulting from the discharge of gastrointestinal bleeding from the anus. Common diseases include gastrointestinal and anal diseases, such as ruptured esophageal and gastric varices, gastric ulcers, and hemorrhoids. It may also be caused by diseases outside the digestive system, such as infectious diseases, blood diseases, and poisoning. Meanwhile, taking certain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs, glucocorticoids, and iron supplements, may also lead to rectal bleeding. The manifestation of rectal bleeding varies, which may be bright red, dark red, or tarry black in the stool. A small amount of bleeding may not change the color of the stool and needs to be determined through a occult blood test.
