The uric acid test should be performed on an empty stomach, and the following points should be paid attention to when checking blood uric acid:
1. Blood should be drawn on an empty stomach to check for uric acid in the early morning, that is, fasting for more than eight hours, and fasting after twelve o'clock in the evening. But you can drink water, fasting, especially a high-purine diet, can make blood uric acid high.
2. Drugs that affect uric acid excretion should be stopped one week before blood drawing, and strenuous exercise should be avoided before blood drawing, because strenuous exercise can increase blood uric acid. Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, which is mainly excreted by the kidneys. Disorders of purine metabolism or renal excretion of uric acid can lead to an increase or decrease in the concentration of uric acid in the blood.
Serum uric acid greater than 7 mg/dL in men and postmenopausal women and greater than 6.0 mg/dL in premenopausal women can be diagnosed as hyperuricemia.
