Clinical significance of renal function
1.uric acid
Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism in the body. It is mainly excreted by the kidneys, so the determination of uric acid can understand the function of the kidneys. Check for gout, acute or chronic nephritis, malignancy
2.Blood creatinine
Serum creatinine concentrations provide some accurate indication of the extent to which glomerular filtration is impaired. When renal function is normal, the rate of creatinine excretion is constant, and when the renal parenchyma is damaged, the glomerular filtration rate decreases. When the filtration rate is reduced to a certain extent, the blood creatinine concentration rises sharply.
3.serum urea (BUN)
Serum urea is a metabolite of human protein, mainly through glomerular filtration and excreted with urine, when the renal parenchyma is damaged, the glomerular filtration rate is reduced, resulting in an increase in serum urea concentration in the blood, so by measuring urea, the filtration function of the glomeruli can be understood.
