In 1973, Feinslone first discovered Hepatitis A virus (HAV) in the feces of acute phase patients using immunoelectron microscopy technology. Hepatitis A virus is a small RNA virus belonging to the family Hepatophiles. After human infection with HAV, most cases manifest as subclinical or occult infections, with only a few individuals exhibiting acute hepatitis A. Generally, it can fully recover without transitioning to chronic hepatitis, and there are no chronic carriers.
The virus is spherical in shape with a diameter of approximately 27nm. No capsule. The capsid is composed of 60 shell particles, with a 20 sided stereosymmetry and HAVAg specific antigen. Each shell particle is composed of four different peptides, namely VP1 Composed of VP2, VP3, and VP4
